CONGRESSIONAL ADVOCACY 101

COVID-19 UPDATE: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Poligon is offering our Congressional Advocacy 101 training virtually. Request a webinar for communities, student groups, and organizations for people of all ages, faiths, and experience levels. All trainings can be customized to the requesting organization's needs, and skills can be applied at the local and state level. Below are descriptions of the trainings we offer:
Congressional Advocacy 101 training
Our most requested training is the perfect starting point for those just beginning their advocacy journey. Poligon's skilled trainers provide a general overview of Congress, the advocacy process, and how to participate in office visits, town hall meetings, and phone calls with Members and/or their staff. Attendees then practice the skills they learned through live simulations and receive immediate feedback on their performance. Participants leave the training confident and comfortable with engaging their elected officials at home or on Capitol Hill on any issue they care about.

Congressional Advocacy 201 training
So you've visited your Member of Congress - now what? This advanced training builds upon the basics we share in our 101 training by teaching attendees the nuts and bolts of how to track legislation and Congressional votes (i.e. what is cloture?) as well as how to take their advocacy to the next level through strategies such as media efforts, coalition building, and non-legislative tools including Congressional briefings and hearings.

Poligon strives to make our trainings accessible for all audiences and understands that not all organizations and community groups have the resources to fully pay for the training. As a result, we offer trainings for those organizations on a sliding scale, based on their annual budget. Please contact us for more information on this policy.

Poligon is only offering virtual trainings during 2020. Please contact us for the rate.

Testimonials:

Unlike other workshops, Poligon's was very hands-on. It allowed attendees to participate in mock scenarios and fully understand the way Congressional advocacy works." - Ibi Tayyab, Washington DC
