It's August recess! Your House Representatives are in their home districts for the entire month of August, and your Senators will be back in their states the last two weeks in August. Here’s how to make your voice heard:

Here are three ideas for what issue areas to address:
Muslim Ban: The latest decision on the Muslim Ban was a ruling by the Supreme Court in July to exclude extended family relatives such as grandparents, uncles, and cousins from the ban, but continue to ban 24,000 refugees from predominantly from Muslim-majority countries. Tell your members that Congress must fulfill its oversight duties and step in to condemn and nullify this bigoted ban. As lower courts have previously stated, this policy is based on discrimination against the Muslim community’s religion, and not national security. It also clearly undermines our values as a nation to welcome people of all backgrounds, regardless of their religion or ethnic background
ACT for America Anti-Islam Rally: Following a largely unsuccessful “March Against Sharia” in June, the nation’s largest anti-Muslim grassroots group is planning rallies in 24 states and Washington DC on September 9th. The protests, branded “America First”, explicitly targets Muslim communities and raises the specter of Islam as a fear mongering tactic across the nation with their anti-Muslim agenda.
So far, eight locations have been confirmed. If your city has granted one, speak to your representatives about how this negatively impacts your community. If they haven’t, then urge them not to, as such rallies harm the Muslim community and increases Islamophobia rhetoric.
H.Res 257: This bipartisan House resolution condemns hate crimes and any other form of racism, religious or ethnic bias, discrimination, incitement of violence, or animus targeting a minority in the United States. It was introduced by Rep. Comstock (R-VA-10) and has gathered 22 co-signers. The senate version of the resolution (S.118), introduced by Sen. Harris (D-CA), passed unanimously. TIP: Tell your Congressional representative how hate crimes impact you and your community and encourage them to support and protect Muslims through such resolutions.
