Poligon Education Fund Marks 2nd Anniversary of SCOTUS Decision to Uphold the Muslim Ban
Urges Congress to Pass the NO BAN Act
Washington, D.C. - Today, June 26th, is the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Muslim Ban 3.0. As a result, family members living abroad have been unable to reunite with their loved ones in the U.S. because of their religion and ethnicity. While there have been several iterations of the ban, Muslim Ban 3.0 targets individuals from Muslim majority countries including Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen and offers a sham waiver process, denying 98% of applicants.
Poligon Board President Wardah Khalid issued the following statement on the anniversary:
“The hate-fueled Muslim Ban, which has now extended into an Africa Ban, was introduced by this administration as a symbol of racism, religious discrimination, and white supremacy. Three and a half years since the first Muslim and refugee ban was enacted, countless families remain separated due to this policy, and U.S. refugee resettlement numbers continue to drop to historic lows. Congress must end this immoral anti-Muslim and anti-Black ban by passing the NO BAN Act now.”
The NO BAN Act, introduced by Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA-27) in the House and Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) in the Senate, prohibits religious discrimination when issuing visas to immigrants seeking to travel to the United States of America. Poligon has worked tirelessly in coalition to introduce and push forward this legislation and looks forward to the day when this unethical and un-American ban is repealed.
